Censor.NET Chief editor Yurii Butusov wrote on Facebook.
"Stepan Chubenko is one of the youngest citizens of Ukraine who was killed because he called himself a Ukrainian. He was kidnapped by Russian 'DPR' militants in the city of Donetsk on July 23, 2014. The minor boy was tortured and killed on July 28," the journalist wrote.
"He was the goalkeeper of the Kramatorsk football club and was going to enter a university in Kyiv. Stepan did not hide his pro-Ukrainian views. Stepan Chubenko was awarded People's Hero of Ukraine title by volunteers in May 2016," Butusov added.
"Stepan did not have time to live a great life. He made a choice of which many adults turned out to be incapable. He has become a small symbol of civil resistance, of the Ukrainian Donbas which can not be forgotten, and which we have to hear and understand. Stepan's parents will visit the tournament. His mother still teaches in a school in Kramatorsk. Those who have the opportunity, please come and support," the journalist concluded.
