 SBU searches Novynskyi's companies for evidence of "financing terrorism"

On Friday, the Security Service searched the companies of Vadym Novynskyi's Smart-Holding in different parts of Ukraine. The searches were conducted in the offices of Smart Maritime Group in Kherson, the office of Regal Petroleum in Yakhnyky village, the Poltava region, and the office of the company that owns Unex bank.

Censor.NET reports citing Smart-Holding's press service.

"SBU representatives, on the basis of dubious court decisions, raided the offices of companies looking for alleged evidence of involvement of the holding companies in financing terrorism. Smart-Holding officially declares that neither the mother company nor any of its subsidiaries nor its beneficiary - one of the Opposition Bloc leaders Vadym Novynskyi - have anything to do with this trumped-up charges," the statement reads.

As reported, Novynskyi is one of the richest people in Ukraine, the owner of Smart-Holding, which combines a string of businesses. He possesses a large share of Metinvest mining and steel holding and HarvEast agricultural holding, Regal Petroleum oil and gas company, the Kherson Shipyard, the Black Sea Shipyard.

Last year, the Interior Ministry issued a summons against Novynskyi, although he was in St. Petersburg at that time. The summons was issued in connection with the activity of the Donetsk region retail chain "Amstor."
