 Turchynov, Szubin discuss tracing and return of funds syphoned off from Ukraine by Yanukovych and his allies

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam Szubin.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation in Ukraine's east, the issues of the joint efforts against money laundering and terrorism financing. Special attention was paid to the questions of cooperation with the U.S. in tracing and return of the funds syphoned off from the country by Yanukovych and his allies. The parties also discussed imposition of sanctions against financial institutions operating in the occupied territories.

According to the U.S. under secretary of the Treasury, the U.S. supports extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation taking into account the continued aggression against Ukraine. Moreover, Adam Szubin expressed hope for close cooperation between the countries in terms of countering terrorism financing and money laundering.
