 EU set to address Ukraine's association, visa liberalization issues in near future, - Mogherini

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Hroisman and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini have agreed on bilateral cooperation in security sector and set to hold a meeting of the EU–Ukraine Association Council before the end of 2016.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Hroisman met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing the Cabinet's press service.

The sides discussed the agenda of the EU-Ukraine relations, in particular the situation around the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens, the ratification of the Association Agreement, and granting of macro-financial aid. Federica Mogherini expressed her readiness to address these issues in the near future.

The prime minister briefed Mogherini on the progress of Ukraine's government in the social and economic sector, public service reform, and fight against corruption.

In turn, the high representative praised the work of the new Cabinet in its first 100 days.

The topical issues also included the settlement of the situation in Ukraine's east and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Hroisman expressed his gratitude for the EU's decision to extend the economic sanctions against Russia. It was also stressed that the deterioration of the situation in the occupied Crimea requires strengthening pressure on the Russian Federation and involving the EU in the development of a demilitarization and de-occupation strategy for Crimea.

The parties also agreed to rejuvenate cooperation under the Administrative Agreement between Ukraine and the European Defense Agency, concluded in December 2015. A meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council, which will be co-chaired by Hroisman and Mogherini, was also scheduled for the end of 2016.
