NSDC may consider martial law imposition, Turchynov says

The National Security and Defense Council can put the imposition of martial law on its agenda in case of further escalation of the situation in Ukraine’s east in order to protect the integrity of the country and the security of its citizens.

This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, Censor.NET reports citing the NSDC press service.

According to him, active hostilities carried out by the Russian occupation forces lead to constant deterioration of the situation in the east of Ukraine.

"Continuous strikes committed by the Russian aggressors using powerful weapons banned by the Minsk agreements, modern means of fire guidance and coordination lead to significant losses among our soldiers. We have lost 21 servicemen over the last night including seven killed and 14 injured," he said, stressing that the Ukrainian military "strictly observe the Minsk agreements and use weapons only in response to murderous provocations by the Russian invaders."

The NSDC secretary said that Ukraine informed its Western partners through diplomatic channels on the cynical and brazen violation of the Minsk agreements by the aggressor.

"If this dangerous trend continues, Ukraine will take all measures necessary to protect the integrity of our country and the security of citizens, up to putting the martial law imposition on the agenda of the National Security and Defense Council," Oleksandr Turchynov emphasized.
