 MP Liashko might face charges over threats against Chernihiv region prosecutor

The Prosecutor General's Office has started investigating threats by people's deputy Oleh Liashko against Chernihiv region prosecutor Nosenko.

As reported, on July 15, 2016, a video was published online, showing people's deputy of Ukraine Oleh Liashko making threats against the Chernihiv region prosecutor. The fact has been entered in the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations as containing signs of criminal offenses under part 1, article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (threat of violence against an employee of a law enforcement agency in the line of duty) and part 1, article 343 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (exertion of any kind of influence against an employee of a law enforcement agency in order to prevent their line of duty or achieve the adoption of an unlawful decision).

"Urgent investigative and legal proceedings, aimed at establishing the truth and ensuring a rapid, full, and impartial investigation in accordance with the requirements of articles 2, 9, 28 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, have been launched. In particular, letters and subpoenas have been sent to certain Verkhovna Rada MPs who may appear witnesses of the said crime, for conducting investigative and legal proceedings with their participation," the statement notes.

Punishment applied under part 1, article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine stipulates correctional labor for up to two years, or arrest for up to six months, or restriction of freedom for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period; the punishment applied under part 1, article 343 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for a fine of up to 100 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, or correctional labor for up to one year, or arrest for up to three months.
