Parliament makes applying for passport compulsory from age of 14

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted the draft law No. 3224 on amendments to some laws of Ukraine concerning the documents proving the citizenship of Ukraine, identity, or person's special status, aimed at EU's liberalization of visa regime for Ukraine.

The decision was supported by 226 deputies, Censor.NET reports.

"The bill is intended to update the list of documents with contactless smart chip or without it, which prove the citizenship of Ukraine, identity, or person's special status; verify the legal status of certain categories of persons; remove blind spots in the existing legal regulations; bring the law of Ukraine on the Unified State Demographic Registry and documents that prove the citizenship of Ukraine, identity, or person's special status in line with the current legislation and the present day realities," the accompanying explanatory note reads.
