 PGO detains NBU's former deputy head Tkachenko, charged with stealing 787 million hryvnia of state funds, - Military Prosecutor Matios

The Prosecutor General's Office has detained former Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Oleksii Tkachenko on suspicion of embezzling 787 million hryvnia (approx. $31.65 million) of public funds.

As reported, Prosecutor General Lutsenko and SBU chief Hrytsak personally led the operation. At present, two former officials of the National Bank of Ukraine have been apprehended for participation in criminal undertaking of Yanukovych, Kurchenko, and others, Matios wrote.

Another suspect, Roman Yakovliev, former director general of NBU's supervision department, has also been detained. Both detainees are charged with embezzling of 787 million hryvnia through abuse of office, received in the form of stabilization loan issued by Real Bank during April 2013 - February 2014.

The said persons acted in collusion with former Head of the National Bank Ihor Sorkin, former chairman of Real Bank Volodymyr Ahafonov, and Kharkiv businessman Serhii Kurchenko.

The prosecution has filed a motion to court, asking for arrest of the detainees.
