Turchynov held a meeting with military leadership of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) and checked combat readiness of Ukrainian military units near Mariupol by visiting strong points in Shyrokyne and other positions in the southern defense line, Censor.NET informs citing the NSDC press service.
According to him, Russian occupational troops consisting of the 1st and 2nd army corps have significantly increased the volume of shelling, which "is conducted with defiant neglect of agreements regarding withdrawal of heavy weapons from the demarcation line."
"The enemy uses Minsk-banned 152-mm and 122-mm artillery for its daily shelling, as well as 120-mm mortars and MRLS," the NSDC secretary said, adding that professionally trained sabotage and recon groups and snipers have got more active as well.
Turchynov noted that creation of specialized mobile mortar groups by the enemy has been recorded recently, which groups "specialize in defeating military and civilian facilities and firing along routes of movement of OSCE monitoring groups."
"All these provocative activities inflict losses of personnel to the ATO forces, as well as civilian casualties, and, as planned by the Kremlin leadership, aim at scuttling the Minsk agreements," the NDSC secretary noted.
Turchynov also added that the enemy had been the most active at Donetsk and Mariupol directions. According to him, occupational troops are well-supplied with weapons, ammunition, and fuel, and tactical reserve is being created.
"All of this proves that the Russian General Staff is preparing offensives," he added, stressing that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready to repulse all provocations by the aggressor.
