 Italy’s Tuscany adopts resolution to lift anti-Russian sanctions following Lombardy

The regional council of the Italian province of Tuscany unanimously passed a resolution urging the government of Italy to lift sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation by the EU.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Europeiska Pravda, the resolution was initiated by Manuel Vescovi, the leader of local branch of Lega Nord (Northern League) party holding ideology of Euroscepticism and Federalism.

The resolution obliges the regional government to "take steps for implementation of any initiatives promoting the overcoming of the sanctions imposed against Russia over crisis in Ukraine". The document also urges the government to "continue ensuring commitment to the dialogue and international cooperation in order to build bridges, not walls".

Earlier, Italian region of Lombardy approved resolution "on recognition of Crimea's principle of self-determination and lifting sanctions imposed against Russia" on July 5. The regional council of Liguria passed a similar resolution June 29. The regional council of Veneto province supported a resolution recognizing Crimea the part of the Russian Federation and called on the government of Italy to abolish sanctions against Russia.
