Ukraine lacks funds to proceed with low tariffs, - Minister Reva

Ukraine's limited resources do not allow it to restrain the growth in utility rates.

"The problem of our country is not in high tariffs but in poor people. Did they become poor in the last three months?" Reva remarked.

According to him, what is happening now is a result of the policy of containment of tariffs in the past 25 years.

Reva says the state is no longer able to restrain rates by administrative means as it has limited financial resources.

"We'll have the situation that is described in a classic Ukrainian joke. "Dad, let's stop selling watermelons, because we'll run out of money for giving change," the minister said.
