As reported by Censor.NET referring to Ukrinform, Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko said it at a briefing after the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Procedural Committee that considered the lifting of parliamentary immunity of people's deputy Oleksandr Onyshchenko, accused of illegal gas schemes.
"We intend to pay attention to all the dealers in the gas market, and it does not apply to Mr. Onyshchenko only or someone else. It's about fathoming the theft of state resources, which led to a budget decline and made people pay a lot more money," the prosecutor general stated.
At the same time, he believes that the tariffs in Ukraine are unfair. as noted by Lutsenko, the price for gas has been increased at least by half, which "private speculators" put in their pockets.
"Tell me how can they [rates - ed.] be fair if half the price is stolen through fictitious firms in the pockets of private speculators that sit in the parliament? Tell me, how could it be otherwise, if those in the Verkhovna Rada don't pay rent at all? Of course, we face a heated battle," he said.
As previously reported, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine raided the office of MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko on March 16. The NABU stated that the searches were carried out under the pretrial investigation of criminal case initiated into abuse of office during sale of the natural gas extracted jointly with Ukrhazvydobuvannia SE.
On June 16, Andrii Parubii has instructed the Committee on Rules of Parliamentary Procedure and Support to Work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to promptly consider the motion regarding the stripping of the parliamentary immunity, arrest, and confinement of lawmaker Oleksandr Onyshchenko, a member of Volia Narodu parliamentary group.
