 Lutsenko requests Rada to strip MP Onyshchenko of immunity

Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko has introduced a motion to Ukrainian lawmakers asking to strip the key subject in the "gas case", Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko, of parliamentary immunity.

As reported by Censor.NET, Lutsenko deliberately arrived at today's meeting of the relevant parliamentary committee that is considering the motion. Onyshchenko and his lawyers are also attending the meeting.

"Please, consider this motion and give your consent to bring Oleksandr R. Onyshchenko, born March 31, 1969, citizen of Ukraine, people's deputy of Ukraine, to criminal liability," Lutsenko addressed the committee, having presented the case materials.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine raided the office of MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko on March 16. The NABU stated that the searches were carried out under the pretrial investigation of criminal case initiated into abuse of office during sale of the natural gas jointly extracted with Ukrhazvydobuvannia SE.

On June 16, Andrii Parubii has instructed the Committee on Rules of Parliamentary Procedure and Support to Work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to promptly consider the motion regarding the stripping of the parliamentary immunity, arrest, and confinement of lawmaker Oleksandr Onyshchenko, a member of Volia Narodu parliamentary group.
