"This is betrayal of national interests," - Hroisman on 2009 gas contract with Russia

Back in 2009, Yuliia Tymoshenko signed gas contracts in which Ukraine's interests were not top priority.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Ukrinform, this was announced by Ukraine' Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman at a briefing after Ukrainian forum on energy efficiency.

"I need to stress this again that in the expert sector, there is this understanding that signing of the contract at $450 was disadvantageous for Ukraine - this is a fact. How to treat it, depends on each individual. My position is that it was very negative. I believe this is betrayal of national interests, unfortunately," Hroisman said.

According to him, tens of billions of dollars paid by Ukraine to Russia is a problem Ukraine will long be dealing with.

This fact, the PM stressed, means that then-Prime Minister Tymoshenko did not put the state as her top priority.

Earlier, the contract for gas supplies for Ukraine in 2009-2019 was signed on Jan. 19 by heads of Ukraine's Naftohaz and Russia's Gazprom upon an agreement between Tymoshenko and Putin.
