Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko said during a press conference in Lviv, Censor.NET informs citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.
Lutsenko said that Onyshchenko left for Nice to celebrate his birthday June 14, and Special Prosecutor's Office members were aware of it when they were raiding his office.
"Unfortunately, yesterday's attention to this case left no other choice but to sign off (the motion - Ed.). I'm not going to congratulate your colleague Dmytro Hnap... I can only guarantee Mr. Onyshchenko fair investigation and legitimate actions.
"By the way, the Verkhovna Rada regulations stipulate for a five-day period for the written explanations to be submitted and we will have to follow these regulations not to repeat the situation that occurred with Mosiichuk. There should be no regulations breach, no violations of procedures.
"The Verkhovna Rada chairman received my motion today. He will request Mr. Onyshchenko to provide written explanations today. He may either provide them or not - it is his right. The relevant committee shall hold a meeting no later than 20 days after my motion has been submitted. I expect it to be held earlier. I am going to attend it and give all the required explanations.
"I am confident that the evidence base is sufficient. And after that the Verkhovna Rada should vote, I very much expect, in favor of stripping of immunity and prosecution, as well as confinement," Lutsenko said.
Earlier, NABU searched MP Onyshchenko's formal chamber on June 15. NABU Head Artem Sytnyk explained that the agency was carrying out 37 raids in three cities as part of the criminal case filed into corrupt practices with gas sale. 10 people were detained under this case.
The large scale embezzlement and creation of a crime ring inflicted damage to the state in the amount of almost 3 billion hryvnia. The investigators suspect this crime ring to be run by Onyshchenko.
