 NABU searches office of UIA air carrier

Employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine are conducting searches in the office of the Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Company.

This was announced by the NABU press service, Censor.NET informs.

According to the message, the search is conducted within pretrial investigation of a fact of abuse of office by officials of the State Aviation Service (SAS) with the purpose of receiving improper advantage for certain private air carriers, which caused grave consequences for state interests (part 2 article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the message reads.

"The search is aimed at finding documents proving the facts of debt of UIA to the state in amount of 150 million hryvnia ($6 million) for the period between January 2014 and December 2016. ... The company refused to provide the documents to NABU voluntarily," the agency informed.

Pretrial investigation continues.

The press service of UIA named the search 'illegal' and said the requested documents were available both in open sources and state agencies, including SAS, State Statistics Service, State Securities and Exchange Commission, and courts.

UIA believes the search is 'uncovered pressure over the business aimed at intimidation of the UIA staff.'
