"The introduction of the visa waiver temporary suspension mechanism is key point for the European Union now. And there is a consensus within the EU that they are to solve this issue by the end of June. Which is why we together with Georgia are now held hostage to this issue," the deputy minister told reporters on Tuesday as Kyiv hosted the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Inter-Parliamentary Council.
According to Zerkal, the internal situation in the EU is the cause of the development of such a mechanism by the European side, not Ukraine, since the Ukrainian side has fulfilled all the requirements necessary for visa liberalization with the EU.
Earlier, the European Commission recommended the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union to waive visas for Ukrainian citizens April 20, 2016. The legislative proposal of the European Commission must be published and then approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union (the body representing the governments of all EU member states).
