The celebration started with a moment of silence to remember soldiers who died defending the city.
Minister of Interior Arsen Avakov said that as long as "Ukrainian borders are guarded by the mad dog of Putin's regime," the peace is under threat.
"Mariupol has long not heard the sounds of war, the shelling. It is important that Mariupol develops and we see it. It will be the best response to the war," the minister stressed.
The defenders of the city marched along its streets accompanied by an orchestra.
