Russian secret services finance certain Ukrainian politicians to destabilize domestic situation, - SBU

Yanukovych-era politicians and officials that fled to Russia and Russian secret services allocate funds to destabilize the situation in Ukraine through second and third-tier politicians.

This was announced by SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak at a briefing in Odesa, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Russia is financing extremism in the territory of our state," Hrytsak said.

The head of the SBU said: "We register a lot of cases when some Ukrainian politicians of not the first but the second or third tier in certain authorities secretly meet with representatives of former political Ukrainian elites that have escaped to the Russian territory, receive money from both the secret services and those who fled Ukraine. These funds are further used to destabilize the situation inside the country."

According to Hrytsak, the aggressor has reduced the number of attacks in the Donbas, while subversive groups have stepped up their activity inside the country.

Earlier, Vasyl Hrytsak said foreign secret services attempted to create "Bessarabia People's Republic" in nine districts of the Odesa region in 2015.
