Avakov urges to separate decentralization and "special status" of Donbas in draft amendments to Constitution

Today, June 8, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov proposed to amend the Constitution in terms of decentralization and exclude the item on the special law defining peculiarities of the local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Censor.NET reports citing the Communication Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

"I believe that if we want to succeed in decentralization we should stop hiding. Let's separate this project from the extremely controversial one regarding the "special status," which will not be passed by the parliament. These amendments have no chance to be adopted together with the law on the "special status" of the Donbas," Avakov said.
