Moskovskyi, Vatutina Avenues may be renamed Bandery, Shukhevycha

A regular meeting of the Commission on Names of the Kyiv City State Administration has supported a number of proposals for renaming streets in Ukraine's capital.

Censor.NET reports quoting KCSA's press service.

As noted, the mayor of Kyiv is recommended to introduce an initiative in the City Council on renaming four streets, two avenues, and a lane. In particular, it is suggested that Moskovskyi and Vatutina Avenues be renamed Romana Shukhevycha and Stepana Bandery.

"All the proposals have been publicly discussed and voted. We take responsibility and immediately report any voting fraud. These proposals will be shaped into draft resolutions that will be forwarded to the City Council for their consideration by relevant commissions. Only upon the consideration, the draft resolutions are introduced in the session hall where deputies decide whether they support or oppose this or that renaming. The resolutions are advisory and can only take effect after their approval by the City Council and the mayor," the Commission's co-chair, Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksii Reznikov said.

The Commission also offered to bring to a public debate the issue of assigning the name of famous Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych to an art school in the Desnianskyi district and the name of outstanding Ukrainian aircraft designer Ihor Sikorskyi to the International airport "Kyiv".
