"It’s our door that is being knocked at with proposals to purchase at least a little bit of Russian gas at competitive price," - Poroshenko

Ukraine received 92 percent of imported gas from Russia in 2013, reduced this figure to 74 percent in 2014, and made it as low as 37 percent last year, with a trend for decline. The index equals to zero this year.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said at today's meeting of the National Reform Council on energy efficiency, Censor.NET informs citing the president's press office.

"We do not stand with a hat in our hand any more as we had been doing all 22 years of the history of Ukraine, begging the aggressor state to give us a little bit of gas. It is our door that is being knocked at now with proposals to purchase at least a little bit of Russian gas at a competitive price," the president said.

The head of state stressed that the process of rooting out corruption, the return of control over the state-owned enterprises, and the fight against monopolies was underway. Thus, the total income of the key energy sector enterprises such as Enerhoatom, Naftohaz of Ukraine, Ukrenerho, Ukrhidroenerho, Centerenerho had increased by 10 billion hryvnia.

The president reminded that agreements with alternative suppliers of nuclear fuel, in particular Westinghouse, had been signed in order to diversify sources of fuel for nuclear power plants.

According to the head of state, the diversification of energy supply routes, introduction of competitive sources, coupled with a decrease in the world's oil and gas prices led to a decline in gas prices to $337 in Q12015, to $227 in Q4 2015, while this year's price will be at $160-180 per 1,000 cubic meters.

"The shortfall of Naftohaz was 110 billion hryvnia as early as the year before last. I very much hope that we will have a zero shortfall this year and we will be confidently able to make emphasis that we are breaking even figure this year," the president told the head of the company.
