Ukraine to purchase gas from Russia if price is lower than that offered by European countries, Naftohaz head says

Chairman of the board of Naftohaz NJSC Andrii Koboliev says that the company continues holding talks with Russian Gazprom on the terms of the natural gas supplies to Ukraine and is willing to resume its purchase in Q3 at a price lower than Europe’s one.

"The dialogue in this regard is underway now. It is ongoing. Naftohaz plans to resume gas imports in Q3. We still have one month left," the head of the Ukrainian gas monopoly said on air of Channel 5 on Monday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"If Gazprom agrees to make temporary amendments to the existing contract..., in this particular case, if the price is lower than the one that we are offered from the European direction, it will be a right thing to buy gas from the easterly direction from the point of view of consumer spending reduction and common sense," Andrii Koboliev said.

He noted that the price was not announced but it was expected to be fair.
