Putin brought into negotiations to end hostilities in Donbas due to Normandy format talks, - Trilateral Contact Group expert Aivazovska

Negotiations in the Normandy format (Ukraine, Germany, France, and Russia) allowed involving President Vladimir Putin of Russia, which was the main achievement of these talks.

As reported by Censor.NET, such an opinion was expressed by Ukraine's representative in the political subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group to resolve the conflict in the Donbas Olha Aivazovska in a comment to 112 Ukraine TV channel

According to her, the second achievement was the signing of the Minsk agreements.

"One of the two main achievements of this format of talks was the possibility to directly bring the Russian leader into these negotiations despite the fact that Russia was involved in the hostilities in Ukraine's east. This is extremely important as the last word on any cease-fire still rests with this party to the conflict.

"While Russia tries not to recognize itself as the party to the conflict, the signing of the Minsk agreements is a tactical victory and a possibility to stop these large-scale military operations that have been taking place before the agreements conclusion, rather than some achievement," Aivazovska said.
