Parliament received no proposals on new CEC members from Poroshenko, - Vice Speaker Syroid

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has not yet received a presentation by President Petro Poroshenko on appointment of the new composition of the Central Elections Commission of Ukraine (CEC).

As reported by Censor.NET citing UNIAN, this was announced by the parliament's Vice Speaker Oksana Syroid.

She said that no one in the parliament has seen the names of the new candidates to the CEC, despite an announcement made.

Deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada said it's been two years since the president was supposed to have filed the list to the parliament.

Syroid said that the postponement of presentation of the candidates is "a mockery of Ukrainians, because the right to elect and be elected is a fundamental right of a citizen, which could not be implemented without an independent authority, which is the CEC."

On June 3, President Petro Poroshenko announced that he had filed his proposals on the new composition of the CEC with the parliament.

12 out of 15 CEC members were supposed to end their seven-year tenure in the Commission on June 1, 2014, but continue fulfilling their duties.
