Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Valentyna Telychenko said on Channel 5, Censor.NET reports.
"The prosecutor's office should get rid of those who compromise it in the eyes of the society. Nonprofessionals, those who live above their income, and those who are believed to be corrupt should be fired," she said.
"Of course, there will be a lot of layoffs," the official said. "We will employ new staff to fill the hundreds of positions that will occur. And it does not matter if these people belong to the system or come from outside the system. It is important to develop criteria to enrich prosecution by professional and honest people. They have to receive good salary for this," Telychenko said.
"We should not expect that 100% of all the laid off, 100% of all the corrupt officials will be put on the list and punished. I think a few people dismissed from the prosecutor's office shall be the first signal. And when those few will grow into dozens and hundreds, it will be a compelling message for the other employees to change," she added.
Valentyna Telychenko, a prominent lawyer, was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General for the reforms in May.
