 "Some good news out of Ukraine," - US Department of State welcomes passing of Constitutional amendments in terms of justice by Rada

The U.S. Department of State has commended the Constitutional amendments in terms of justice approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

This was said by Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Mark C. Toner at a daily press briefing on Thursday, Censor.NET reports.

" I did want to mention some good news out of Ukraine. We do congratulate the Ukrainian Rada on the passage today of constitutional amendments and implementing legislation to improve judicial independence, accountability, and efficiency. This is an important step in Ukraine's fight against corruption and towards fulfilling the aspirations of the Ukrainian people for a more open and transparent judiciary that works for all Ukrainians, " Toner said.

It should be reminded that following the Revolution of Dignity, the Ukrainian authorities undertook to carry out radical changes in the country. The declared reforms included a judiciary reform. In particular, at the end of October 2015, the Constitutional Commission approved the final version of draft amendments to the Constitution in terms of justice. The Constitutional Court ruled constitutional the bill amending Constitution Feb. 1, 2016. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved amendments to the Constitution in terms of justice in first reading Feb. 2, 2016.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the bill on judicial system and status of judges June 2, 2016. Poroshenko's bill significantly changes the structure of Ukraine's judicial system as well as the procedure for appointing, dismissal, and prosecution of judges. Ukrainian parliament also adopted on second reading and as a whole the amendments to Constitution in terms of justice June 2, 2016.
