The fallen Ukrainian soldier, a native of the Khmelnytskyi region, previously served in the 2nd Battalion of the 95th Brigade, Censor.NET reports citing 1zt.ua.
Vasyl Shemchuk was killed near the village of Pisky in the east of Ukraine May 30. His friends and fellows-in-arms told that they spoke to Vasyl May 27 for the last time. He was leaving for a combat mission then and promised to come on holiday soon.
"We talked over the phone with him and he said that he would see me soon. I did not expect this meeting to be like this," the serviceman of the 199th Airborne Training Centre Vitalii said.
The military and volunteers knelt to the coffin with the paratrooper's body.
Vasyl Shemchuk, call sign Baloo, was born in 1978. His fellows-in-arms described him as a positive, responsible, and reliable person. He was buried in the Khmelnytskyi region on June 2.
