During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine in the context of the ongoing Russian aggression.
According to Turchynov, Lithuania is not just Ukraine's partner, but a friend "whose support we were having both at the time of the Revolution of Dignity and during the military confrontation with the Russian Federation".
Discussing the situation in Ukraine's east, the NSDC Secretary stressed that in the context of the search for a peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas, the European countries must clearly understand that "Russia is not a third party but the aggressor".
The NSDC secretary stressed that the dangerous trend which began in May "may develop into a full-scale hostilities".
"Therefore, we must prepare for an adequate response to the actions of Russia. We hope that our strategic partners will not stand idly by in the face of aggravating situation," Oleksandr Turchynov stressed.
The interlocutors agreed that "the sanctions must not be lifted but stiffened as long as Russia continues aggressive actions and occupation of part of the Ukrainian territory including Crimea".
In turn, Loreta Graužinienė emphasized that Lithuania has always been and will remain a true friend of Ukraine.
Following the talks, the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania was presented the award of the NSDC Secretariat for her stance regarding consistent support of Ukraine.
