1,800 judges to be dismissed after Constitution amended, - Justice Minister

The positions opened will be filled through contests.

This was announced by Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko during a round table on Monday, Censor.NET informs citing LIGA.net.

"800 judges that had been appointed in the recent five years, including by Yanukovych, should be dismissed by the parliament, and we should open 800 posts for local courts' judges," he said, adding that the working group that had developed the amendments to the relevant legislation has considered the initiative by the Justice Ministry to increase the number of judges to be dismissed.

"So now we speak not of 800, but of 1,800 judges appointed for a five-year term. The point of the offered legislation amendments is that the judges cannot be automatically appointed for a premature period, and the positions opened will be filled through contests," Petrenko said.

According to the minister, after the dismissal of 1,800 judges, the system will be renewed by 30 percent.
