 Pyatt says U.S. sanctions would not be lifted due to Savchenko's release

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt ruled out possibility of lifting sanctions against Russia for its release of Batkivshchyna party MP Nadiia Savchenko.

He said this to journalists, Censor.NET informs citing Ukrainski Novyny.

Answering a question whether it was possible that the U.S. lifts its sanctions against Russia due to Savchenko's release, the ambassador said 'no.'

Pyatt stressed that the sanctions were imposed upon Russia for its aggression in the Donbas, and they would only be lifted upon fulfilling of agreements reached in Minsk (Belarus).

The ambassador added that all illegally detained Ukrainian citizens in Russia should return home.
