"We are not engaged in such activities. I formally confirm this," he stressed.

According to the official, it is necessary to tackle a number of issues, including those envisaged by the Minsk agreements, before even starting talking about these elections. In particular, Mahera believes that the illegal armed groups must be disarmed and control over border between Ukraine and Russia must be restored.

"As far as I know, the Ukrainian negotiators in Minsk share the same position," Censor.NET correspondent quotes CEC deputy head as saying.

Mahera also said that the parliament had envisaged a number of elections to local councils in July as well as seven mid-term elections in majority constituencies which deputies left the Verkhovna Rada for whatever reason. At the same time, according to the CEC member, his agency is facing a shortage of funds for the organization of these elections.

"In particular, we lack about 12-13 million to hold elections in the constituencies," Mahera said.

He added that July 1 was the deadline for the parliament's adoption of decisions on additional financing of these elections.
