Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel has forecast the situation in the Donbas, calling the war in eastern Ukraine a frozen conflict.

Pavel says that the situation in Ukraine is close to a frozen conflict. Nevertheless, he believes that in the end Russia will be forced to recognize that the only way for a peaceful, diplomatic, and political solution to the conflict is a strict compliance with the Minsk agreements by both sides.

After asked whether the situation in the Donbas will resemble the frozen conflict in Transnistria, Pavel said the war in Ukraine's east was already a frozen conflict, adding that a situation which can be used for promotion of various political proposals is called a frozen conflict. He also expressed hope that a peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine was the main political goal.
