Rada speaker supports Hroisman’s decision to increase lawmakers’ salaries

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andrii Parubii supports the decision of his predecessor Volodymyr Hroisman to increase MPs’ salaries from 6,109 hryvnia to 17,425 hryvnia, having no intention to abolish it.

He said in an interview with Ukrainski Novyny, Censor.NET reports

"If it was not Volodymyr Hroisman's last decision (as parliament speaker - Ed.), it would be the first one of Andrii Parubii... I am not going to cancel Volodymyr Hroisman's decision because I support it. I told him that I realized how tough this decision was and said I was able to take one myself, but Volodymyr Hroisman always acted like a team player. He said that it was his obligation and put his signature, which gives credit to the prime minister [Hroisman]," he said.

Parubii explained that one of the main cautions voiced by the European corruption fighters was to ensure decent salaries to officials along with the introduction of punitive measures, therefore he recognized statements on the fight against corruption without officials' decent salaries as populism.

As reported, Parubii instructed to submit certificate of death of Ihor Yeremieiev, who was elected a Member of the Parliament in the single-seat constituency No. 23 in the Volyn region, to the Central Election Commission to announce the midterm elections in this constituency.

Parubii decided to personally chair the work group to develop a draft law on holding the parliamentary elections under the proportional electoral system with open lists.
