 Jamala handed Ukraine victory at Eurovision 2016. VIDEO

Ukrainian singer Jamala won Eurovision 2016 song contest, which was held in Sweden's capital Stockholm on Saturday night, with the song "1944".

According to the results of the national juries' voting and the SMS voting Jamala scored 534 points.

Dani Im from Australia got second, while Russian singer Sergey Lazarev became the third.

Ukrainian-born Crimean Tatar singer performed in the second semi-final with the ballad "1944", in which she tells the story of her family's deportation from Crimea in the middle of the last century.


The final stage of the contest involved artists from Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ukraine, the UK, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, and France.
