 Situation worsens in Ukraine's east: 15 attacks recorded yesterday, mostly at Mariupol direction, - Staff

The situation in the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) has deteriorated as militants used weapons against Ukrainian defenders 15 times over the past day.

As noted, in the Luhansk region, the enemy employed grenade launchers on Ukrainian troops' positions in the vicinity of Popasna.

"Ukrainian army strong points near Zaitseve, not far from Horlivka, temporarily occupied by Russian-terrorist troops, were hit with small arms and grenade launchers. Luhanske village, located near the Svitlodarsk reservoir, came under attack as militants used mounted anti-tank grenade launchers," the report reads.

According to the Staff, pro-Russian gangs struck ATO forces' positions near Avdiivka with automatic mounted grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, 82-mm mortars, as well as Minsk-banned 120-mm mortars.

"Most of cease-fire violations occurred yesterday at the Mariupol direction. Our positions near Berezove were twice hit with 82-mm mortars and grenade launchers. In the vicinity of Chermalyk, the enemy employed anti-tank missiles and automatic mounted grenade launchers, while antiaircraft gun was fired near Pavlopil. Our defenders in Shyrokyne came under small arms fire," the Staff notes.

As reported, the majority of attacks occurred during dusk and night hours.

After midnight, militants continued to deliver fire on Ukrainian army strongholds: "In particular, ATO forces' positions near Novotroitske were hit with 82-mm and 120-mm mortars, near Shyrokyne - with small arms."
