At UN SC meeting Ukraine accused Russia of supporting terrorism

The Russian Federation has been involved in subversive activities against Ukraine for more than two years, supported terrorism in the Donbas, and imposed the "Russian world" upon the former Soviet countries, including through the use of terrorist attacks.

Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko made such statement during the meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"For more than two years Ukraine has been a victim of aggression of its neighbor - the Russian Federation. Russia has temporarily occupied and attempted to illegally annex part of Ukraine's territory - Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. It continues its hostile and subversive activities supporting terrorism in the Donbas," the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He stressed that Moscow was using a variety of hybrid war technologies, including financing terrorism to promote the ideology of the so-called "Russian world".

"This neo-imperialist ideology tolerates and facilitates violations of international law, human rights, commission of grave crimes, including acts of terrorism," the representative of Ukraine said.

However, he pointed out that the cruel and vicious propaganda spread by the state-owned media in Russia was one of the basic elements of hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation.

"We believe that the most dangerous situation arises when such manipulations occur at the state policy level. According to the international law, the states are obliged to refrain from such participation and prevent acts of terrorism," Yelchenko stressed.

In this regard, he urged the international community not to focus only on the elimination of social, economic, cultural, religious, and other bases for spread of violent extremism and terrorism.

"There is a need to combat such phenomena as the state propaganda of intolerance and hatred as well as information warfare, which often serve as means in the hybrid war," the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations said.
