This is the second year that Nadiia Savchenko is marking its birthday in a Russian prison, U.S. Embassy to the Russian Federation spokesperson William Stevens said, adding that the U.S. had not changed its position and that Savchenko should be free and at home.
On March 22, the Donetsk city court of the Rostov region found Savchenko guilty of killing Russian journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin and sentenced her to 22 years in prison. The court also found her guilty of an attempted murder and illegal crossing of the Russian border.
In late April, Savchenko completed documents for her extradition to Ukraine.
On May 11, she marked her 35th birthday.
