Parliament ready to discuss elections in Donbas, while deadline unacceptable, - Parubii

No time frame can be set as far as local elections in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions are concerned.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andrii Parubii announced it on air of 5 Channel.

"This issue requires a very profound and philosophical consideration. We are ready to start it in the parliament, we are ready to discuss all options for the future, but I find it unacceptable when we have to face some deadline or requirements, when the vote issue is seen in light of technical forms and terms," he said.

According to Parubii, elections in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions can not be tailored to specific terms and dates.

"We have to talk about elections only after we can ensure security and appropriate freedoms and rights... I would not want the vote issue to be limited by some technical frame, deadline, especially at a time when our soldiers in the eastern front come under daily attacks, when each day people die or get wounded in Ukraine's east," Parubii stressed.

He reminded that the Trilateral Contact Group on the Donbas "is working on specific recommendations" to the bill on elections in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. "But it has not yet been introduced in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as a draft law," the speaker remarked.
