Russian mechanic engineer Andrey Bubeyev has been sentenced to 2.3 years in penal colony for reposting a material about Crimea on his social media account.

Censor.NET reports referring to Radio Svoboda.

The verdict was passed late on Thursday by the Zavolzhsky district court of Tver. Lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina, who represents Bubeyev's interests in court, announced it direct from the courtroom.

The reason behind the criminal prosecution of Bubeyev is a repost of the publication "Crimea is Ukraine" by Boris Stomakhiin and a relevant picture on his VKontakte page.

During the debate, the public prosecutor asked to sentence Bubeyev to 3.5 years in prison. Bubeyev claims that he is being persecuted for his beliefs. He did not plead guilty.

In August 2015, Bubeyev was convicted for reposting similar materials and pictures and sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment in penal colony for inciting hatred or enmity.
