According to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, considering the example of Ukraine, the aggressive actions of Russia's army, armaments concentration along the Lithuanian border, and political will to use force represent an existential threat to Lithuania. Still, she notes that the landing of the two fighters sends no warning signal to any specific country.
"Without singling out any neighbor, I would like to say that no one has any right to poke their noses into here," the head of Lithuania stated, Reuters reports.
12 F-22 Raptor fighters are currently deployed in Europe. U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania Deborah McCarthy claims the arrival of the most advanced American fighters is intended to demonstrate that the United States is honoring its commitments under the 5th Article of the North Atlantic Treaty.
As also reported, the two U.S. Air Force F-22 fighters landed in Romania earlier this week and F-22s last year visited Poland and Estonia, all counties concerned about Russian military ambitions.
