The U.S. insists on the implementation of the Minsk agreements in order to settle the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Barack Obama stated after meeting with Angela Merkel at the G5 summit in Hannover.

According to him, the parties discussed the issue of Normandy Four's progress in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

As Obama noted, the U.S. attaches great importance for the Minsk agreements to be implemented as soon as possible.

The U.S. will spare no effort in its negotiations with Ukraine and Russia in order to convince the two countries to fulfill the deal, the American president said, mentioning regretfully the absence of a stable cease-fire.

According to a communique issued by the White House on Monday, the leaders of the UK, Germany, Italy, the U.S., and France at an informal meeting in Hannover stressed that the necessity of full implementation of the Minsk agreements remained crucial.

"The leaders reiterated that sanctions against Russia would be lifted if the Minsk agreements were fully implemented," the document notes.
