Poroshenko: 23,000 Ukrainians signed contracts which made it possible not to declare seventh draft for military service

The increase in number of those willing to do volunteer military service under contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations has allowed not declaring seventh draft for military service.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said in an interview to Ukrainian TV channels on Sunday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"The fact that more than 23,000 Ukrainians have signed contracts for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other enforcement detachments as of today has given me the opportunity to not to declare the seventh draft for military service. And I'm making every effort to do it as late as possible if there will be such a need," Poroshenko said.

The president recalled that it was possible to significantly increase military salaries this year that motivated many people to do volunteer military service under contract.

"We have covered the fourth wave of draft for military service. We will see how successful the recruitment campaign for military service under contract will be, will it be successful enough to replenish the discharge of the fifth draft for military service, which will definitely take place in due course," the president said.

He added that that the military service under contract had already demonstrated big advantages - there were no deserters among the contract soldiers, the military service was highly motivated as well as most of those who voluntarily came to do military service under the contract were experienced soldiers who participated in the anti-terrorist operation.
