Blocking State Defense Order is threat to national security and defense of the state, - NSDC Secretary Turchynov

Slowing down the financing of the State Defense Order (SDO) for the country, which has been in a military conflict with Russia for more than two years, is unacceptable for it threatens the national security and defense of the state.

This was announced by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov, Censor.NET informs citing the NSDC press service.

According to the secretary, financing of development and production of new types of weapons and military equipment has not been unblocked.

"The reason is that most of financing of the SDO in the 2016 budget shall be provided from a special fund, which in turn is funded by assets confiscated from former president Yanukovych and his cronies," Turchynov said, adding that these funds of over 1.5 billion hryvnia ($60 million) have been arrested and placed at Ukrainian bank accounts.

The NSDC secretary also stressed that the parliament has been able to decide on neither regulations on secret accusation of runaway criminals, nor on confiscation and transfer of arrested assets to the budget in the past six month.

"Further footdragging with financing of defense programs is a threat to the national defense and security of the country," Turchynov said.

He addresses the newly elected Cabinet of the Ministers with a request to make amendments to the budget 2016 law on reallocation of funds and financing the defense programs of the state budget's general fund.
