 Former Berkut unit DC detained on suspicion of beating Euromaidan activists in Kriposnyi Lane, - PGO

PGO's Special Investigations Department constantly takes steps to identify law enforcers involved in illegal actions against peaceful protesters in January - February 2014 and bring them to justice.

On April 21, 2016, the police detained former deputy commander of Berkut riot police unit, wanted for abusing authority and illegal apprehending by prior conspiracy with other Berkut officers Euromaidan activists on the night of Jan. 22 to 23, 2014 in Kriposnyi Lane in Kyiv, accompanied by the use of violence and damage to their minibus, Censor.NET reports citing PGO press service.

In addition, the detainee is accused of forging official reports, providing false testimony by his subordinates, and charging activists with serious crimes. Based on the false testimony, Euromaidan activists were detained, brought to criminal responsibility for alleged acts of hooliganism, and remanded in custody by court.

The detainee is charged under the number of articles of the Criminal Code and the prosecution requests for pre-trial restraint in the form of detention.

The probe proceeds as investigators collect evidence for criminal prosecution of other accomplices in such crimes.
