"Gas tariffs will 100% comply with cost. We have no other way," - Hroisman

Low or economically unjustified tariffs set the stage for large-scale corruption.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Channel 24, Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman said this on air of Livyi Bereh talk show.

"There are signed commitments that gas tariffs will 100% comply with cost [of gas - ed.]. We have no other way," the head of government said.

When asked if he would raise gas tariffs, Hroisman replied: "I have no choice, everyone knows it, everyone understands it."

"Low or economically unjustified tariffs set the stage for large-scale corruption. These are tens and hundreds of billions that different people have earned. When one category [population - ed.] buys gas for 3,000 and another [industrial enterprises - ed.] pays 7,000, they sell it for 7,000 and indicate that it has been sold at the price for population. Billions are earned this way. When there is one price, it will be over," the PM added.

Meanwhile, Hroisman said it is important to abide by a social justice principle so that people with low income would not face major difficulties after the tariffs go high.

He added that those who take advantage of the difference in gas tariffs will continue to stand their ground.
