Court may decide on pre-trial restraint against Vyshhorod mayor Momot as early as April 15, - prosecution

Vyshhorod mayor Oleksii Momot, detained for extorting a €1 million bribe, may be taken to court for choosing a preventive measure as early as tomorrow.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Radio Svoboda, Kyiv region prosecutor Yevhen Bondarenko announced this at today's briefing.

"The mayor of Vyshhorod of the Kyiv region has been detained along with his, shall we say, "friends", associates, who together extorted undue profit from representatives of a developer," Bondarenko said.

He added that initially the criminals extorted €1 million, and then "their ambitions and appetites" abated to €300,000 which they decided to accept in two goes.

"Without waiting for a second transfer, we decided to apprehend these persons immediately after today's acceptance of €200,000 euros," the prosecutor said.
