Mejlis prohibition is declaration of war against Crimean Tatars, - Dzhemilev

Banning the Mejlis is equal to declaring a war against the Crimean Tatars, Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev believes.

As reported by Censor.NET, in an interview with Anadolu news agency he harshly condemned the decision of the so-called prosecutor of annexed Crimea Nataliya Poklonskaya on suspending the activity of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars.

"Russia has banned the work of publicly elected government body of the Crimean Tatar people. Mejlis prohibition is equal to the declaration of war against the Crimean Tatars," Dzhemilev said.

He also noted he quite normally accepted the criticism of the Mejlis. According to him, the occupation authorities of Crimea are trying to discredit its leadership. "We are the leaders of the anti-occupant resistance," Dzhemilev explained.

He also mentioned a growing pressure on the Crimean Tatars in the peninsula. According to him, human rights are systematically violated in Crimea with searches being underway every now and then. Moreover, such actions already do not surprise anyone.
