Banning Mejlis is restoration of Stalin's policy, - Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called the ban of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people "the restoration of Stalin's policy."

Censor.NET reports quoting Poroshenko's Facebook.

The message notes: "As if they haven't got enough of arrests and political trials of certain representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. Now they have decided to ban the Mejlis!

"They forcefully try to deprive the whole nation of vote, the opportunity to represent and defend their rights. This is another violation of basic human rights and freedoms, which Russian invaders commit in illegally annexed Crimea. This is the restoration of Stalin's policy against the indigenous people of the peninsula.

"The reason behind all this is an authoritarian fear of the self-organization of free people.

"I appeal to international community: the occupation each day poses new threats against the residents of Crimea. The only way to stop this lawlessness is to terminate the annexation of the peninsula and remove Russia's occupation forces from its territory."
