Dekanoidze claims rising crime rates in Kyiv

National Police Chief Khatia Dekanoidze reported an increase in crime at a wrap-up meeting of the National Police Main Department.

Censor.NET reports citing National Police press service.

During the first quarter of 2016, 30,851 offense statements have been registered. This is 45 percent more than in the same period last year.

"Analyzing the situation, I can say there are certain problems that require special attention. We are concerned by an increase in the number of specific types of crime: robbery and car thefts," Dekanoidze said.

Andrii Kryshchenko, Kyiv police chief, spoke about an upward trend in certain crimes.

"During the last three years, we have really seen the growth in certain offenses. We have repeatedly named the reasons: the anti-terrorist operation, the socio-economic situation in the country, an influx of people into the capital, and the system rebooting," he said.

Dekanoidze stressed that all services should cooperate to their best to improve the security situation in Kyiv.
